🗣 THE 80:20 RULE IN CONTEXT⁣ 🍏🍫 ⁣ ⁣ If you’ve followed me for a while, you will have heard me talking about the 80/20 ‘rule’ - and as I always get questions about it, I hope this reel helps to provide some context! ⁣ 🥦 80% of the time (approx .. ie the majority!), we should focus on including more nutrient rich foods such as fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole-grains and protein sources that promote beneficial effects on our physical & mental health. ⁣ ⁣ 🍪 However 20% of the time, we CAN include ‘less nutrient dense foods’ such as biscuits, cakes, ice creams & chocolate bars which provide energy and can also benefit our mental well-being by providing a sense of enjoyment & balance.⁣ ⁣ 🙅🏻‍♀️ There is no such thing as good & bad foods, what matters is the quantity & frequency in which we have ALL foods, we just need to consider the ratio. Think about it.. If we ate a diet full of JUST fruits & vegetables, we’d be missing out on essential nutrients such as healthy fats, protein AND it would be pretty challenging to meet our energy requirements too! ⁣ ⁣ ✔️ The key is to AVOID “all or nothing” thinking. If you have a particular goal in mind, a slip-up in your balanced eating plan isn’t a problem, but your reaction could be! Instead, pull out the 80/20 card, remember that life is about BALANCE and go easy on yourself.⁣ ⁣ Saying “Oh, I’ve already ruined my good eating today. I’ll just eat XYZ instead”⁣ ⁣ is like saying.. ⁣ ⁣ “Oh, I dropped my phone on the floor. I’ll just smash it until it breaks.”⁣ 🤦🏻‍♀️⁣ ⁣ 🤔 Do you follow the 80/20 lifestyle?!
