Today is Jane and my 15th wedding anniversary, though we've been together in one form or another for 21 years. I love this photo because I took it in a park where we spend so much time as a family and it has everyone I care about most in one place, everyone holding onto each other.
It's a cliche to say it keeps getting better, but cliches exist and endure because there's truth to them, and it does keep getting better. I honestly couldn't ask for anything more, and there's nobody I enjoy hanging out with more than Jane.
Today we spent the morning in McCarren Park working out, will go get breakfast together after the kids are at school, and then tonight we're going out to dinner with the kids because a big part of what we love about each other is the family we made together.
It's all very hallmark in a way, but if hallmark cards included kids joking about the apocalypse and general destruction, a two-year home renovation that often got so ridiculous all anybody could do was crack up to keep from crying, a pandemic where you realized you only really needed each other, family Fugazi singalongs, and an origin story starring two ratty punks in their 20s sitting alongside the east river joking about people pulling misshapen fish from the water, laughing—and not realizing they'd still be laughing together more than two decades later.
