The Museum has collected many beautiful Christmas cards from country recording artists over the years. Swipe through a few favorites here—all featuring members of the Country Music Hall of Fame with their spouses—from our archival collection. Loretta Lynn and her husband, Doolittle, sent the Museum their card in 1982. Inside it says, “Doo and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Your friend, Loretta Lynn.” When Alan Jackson and his wife, Denise, had their Christmas photo taken in 1991, the couple’s eldest daughter, Mattie, was just one year old, and Jackson’s recording career was only one year older. Tom T. Hall and his wife, Dixie, were well-known dog lovers. When they mailed their cute card featuring basset hound puppies in the early 1970s, they had only been married a few years; they wed in 1968, a year after Hall’s recording career started. Sharon and Ricky Skaggs, who married in 1981, mailed their card to the Museum in 1993. George Jones and his wife, Nancy, had their Christmas photo made sometime in the 1990s. They had been married since 1983 and remained married until his death thirty years later, in 2013. Another longstanding country music tradition is making Christmas records, and all five of these artists recorded Christmas songs during their careers. Which country music Christmas recordings are your favorites?
