“Digital Lily” 2022 I’ve wanted to create my own scenes for the longest time and due to pure laziness, they never transpire. This kills me because I have so many ideas in my head that never come to fruition. BUT I DID IT THIS TIME. While shooting recently, I made the extremely loose connection that CD’s could resemble lily pads. A digital lily pad. My half baked plan was to scope out a location at Tommy Thomson Park, catch some frogs, and hope to GOD they stay still while getting the shot. Last week I found some old blank iridescent DVD’s while helping clean my moms garage. Then this Saturday I headed to Canadian Tire and bought a kids net because there was no way I’d be able to catch these frogs with my hands. I immediately biked to the park and started frog hunting. Haven’t felt so young in 20+ years. I wildly caught 5 and quickly searched for a good spot to set up the scene as it was getting late. Set up my tripod, placed the CD’s amongst the lily pads, took some test shots with flash that I still don’t really know how to use, then carefully placed one frog to see if she’d cooperate. Well, she did. More than I could’ve hoped for. Then I put the rest of them out and we all chilled together as the sun set. I packed up, left my friends and everything as I found it, and had the biggest shit eating smile knowing I got the shot and hit another level in my journey as an artist. This was hands down the most fun I’ve ever had with my camera. What I’m trying to say is I’m just fucking proud of myself ❤️
