Really hard reminder for us parents: Most of the time, when our kids are “off” or “acting up,” it’s because of us. I know, not what we want to hear. I’m no expert, but this is what I’ve experienced. When Mostafa or I aren’t feeling our best, or we’re navigating something in a draining way, we notice a ripple effect right away. These kids teach us more than we could ever teach them. When we first got here, we were navigating so many changes and Nura was testing us hard. I almost blamed it on her age. Kids will be kids, of course, but she was just over the top, fully “on one.” After a few days of feeling defeated, Mostafa and I had a conversation and adjusted some things, and almost magically, she adjusted too. I even took her on a solo date to give her extra attention I hadn’t realized I was depriving her of while navigating everything that came with coming off the first trimester. The moral of the story is to let parenthood make us better human beings. #parenthood
