The Foreo: Vital or Vapid? I’ve always been skeptical of skincare devices because their claims are often hilariously unproven by science. I eventually had the opportunity to try the Foreo Mini 3 and I took the chance, mostly so I could “prove” how silly these devices are. Fast forward several months and I take my Foreo with me everywhere I go. I LOVE the Foreo because it’s a very relaxing face massage; the tiny vibrations softened the semi-permanent grimace I get from work stress, and I’m grateful for that. BUT: my opinions about the Foreo are very nuanced. Foreo makes a lot of high claims about their “T-Sonic pulsations” (aka vibrations lol). On their website they state that they allow skincare to penetrate deeper into the skin and that they have anti-aging benefits. Searching high and low, I found one scientific study on skincare vibrations that was legitimate. It ends saying that such vibrations “could support changes in the physical properties of the skin [but a] further study will be needed to investigate this possibility.” Not much has been proven, so why do I keep using my Foreo? For one, I really do appreciate the facial massage and relaxation I get from using it daily. Two, the device has a timer that helps me track how long I’ve been washing my face for, which for me has resulted in cleaner, clearer skin. Does everyone need a Foreo? Personally, I don’t think so. The Foreo is great for someone who can afford it and has a fair understanding that a device like this is not going to do the work of lasers and botox. If the device breaks your budget, try setting a 30-second timer on your phone when you wash your face–that’s really the feature I think did a lot of work for me.
