visiting one of the oldest mansions of Patmos, built in 1625 by a shipping family from Smyrna, where the family has consistently lived yet with various branches going off to seek their fortunes in other places... in Patmos the inheritance passes down the matriarchal line, therefore each family needed a daughter to continue. The lady of the house still makes the traditional Patmian lace and pictured here are also the vaya, woven from palm leaves on Palm Sunday and hung in the church, people bring them home and place them with the icons - the vaya will bring them peace. #patmos #timetravel
