Last Chance to See // This year we're celebrating Three Decades of Changing Minds. This means delving into the Glasgow Women's Library (GWL) archive, using the materials we find to stimulate memories and create space for looking at the present and future: looking back to move forward. As part of this process we are exhibiting a selection of prints from our 21 Revolutions project which commissioned 21 women artists and 21 women writers to create new work inspired by items and artefacts in our collections. In keeping with our theme this September 'GWL's origin stories' this small selection of prints from our 21st birthday celebration, includes artists and works that resonate with GWL's own history. A photopolymer on mouldmade paper, Jacki Parry's 'Women in the City' takes inspiration from the 5 geographical locations of Glasgow Women's Library since its inception and the women's heritage walks GWL had developed. These guided walking tours, the first of their kind had been developed, and led by a dedicated volunteer team of women's history detectives. Parry, herself a founding member of another important institution in the city, Glasgow Print Studio @glasgowprintstudio, made the work as a rallying cry towards greater acknowledgement of women's presence and influence in the city, replacing the street names around each location with the names of women who have made an impact as artists, activists and leaders. Where a street already has a woman’s name it has been left in. This work was editioned at Glasgow Print Studio by master printmakers. These photos & clips show some of the printmaking process.
