Nothing compares to the feeling of swimming alongside a beautiful family of sperm whales, one of nature’s most mysterious and astounding cetaceans. Sperm whales spend the majority of their time in the dark recesses of the ocean, reaching depths of well over a mile in search of squid. It is only when they ascend to the surface that we can witness the remarkably powerful bonds they share with one another. Pods and individuals will communicate over vast distances using a complex vocabulary of clicks as they traverse the deep sea. Although most sperm whales hunt alone, some families will work together to corral squid and orchestrate complex hunts much like dolphins. There is still so much we don’t yet understand about these incredible animals, but through the lens of my @SonyAlpha 9, I was able to capture a fleeting glimpse of their secret world. #sonyambassador #SonyPartner, #SonyAlpha #SonyArtisans
