Summer feels like it's speeding by; I'm trying to fill every day with learning and magic until the littles go back to school. A few weeks ago we went to the @oaklandzoo and broke in some new back-to-school gear from @highlightsforchildren. Yes, THAT Highlights! They make fun writing retreats I want to attend one day, create fun magazines, learning resources, and gear too! One highlight (see what I did there!?) was when we pulled out water bottles - which really did keep water cold all day in the frying hot sun - and I assumed Carter would want the one with spaceships. I was wrong! Carter wanted the blue one and Aila offered to trade! I observed with equal parts melty googly-eyes and shock and relief. 😍😮 There was some trading back and forth throughout the day and Aila ended up with blue backpack and spaceship everything else, I suspect because she wanted the fat sticker pack that came with the blue backpack. We tested out the glow-in-the-dark features on the space gear at bedtime too. Love that this gear is weather resistant, durable, easy to clean, and versatile! You know we adventure around here, and we are not gentle on our things (see Carter chuck the pack down when he finds the telescope), so I love that the kids can use these items for school, adventuring, and exploring too (it came with us to Alaska!) I guarantee Aila will be filling each case and pack with "treasures" and hiding them around my house in undisclosed locations. It's wild that some of the animals we saw at the zoo, we saw in the wild in Alaska just a few weeks later. Stay tuned for more of those stories!
