The mighty Xingu river nourishes the Kayapó village of A’ukre and provides transport through the Amazon’s endless maze of green. Each morning begins with a slow shuffle down to the clay banks and ends with families wading out to soak and scrub their pots as the sun sinks behind the buzzing canopy. On a walk to the river’s edge for my final bath of the day, I paused to photograph the sky glowing with cloud embers that reflected across the rippling surface.
