On the one year anniversary of the fall of Kabul to the Taliban, I’ve published the first of two pieces I photographed and wrote for @vanityfair. After a failed attempt to enter Afghanistan during the withdrawal last year, I finally returned in May to see the state of the nation and the ashes of the twenty year conflict which I’ve covered intermittently since 2007.
