“The Kitchen in the Park” (2002) was co-presented by The Kitchen and the campaign for the New Madison Square park – an ongoing effort that led to the renovation and restoration of the park ⭐
Audiences experienced three evenings of music, dance, and spoken word highlighting The Kitchen’s multidisciplinary artists such as Mary Ellen Childs, Marty Ehlrich, Craig Harris, Eiko Otake, Takashi Koma Otake, and Tracie Morris. 20 years later, we’re thrilled to be back in good company with our friends at @madsqparknyc to co-present “Shadow of the Sea” by @atelierdegeste.
Presented in partnership with Madison Square Park Conservancy, Rhee’s new work “Shadow of the Sea” addresses the mutability of land and shoreline through geologic time, the lived experiences of climate change, and the quotidian urban and ecological realities of contemporary NYC.
An ensemble of dancers will first perform migratory score, beginning on the East & West coasts of Manhattan, and then continued at Madison Square Park’s Oval Lawn, where the work lives in direct dialogue with @cristinaiglesiasstudio exhibition “Landscape and Memory” is also on view.
