Jesus Ciriza Larraona, owner of the Colours of Nature in Auroville, checks the quality of the indigo broth at his natural dyeing factory in South India.
When the water is removed from the broth at first it has a greener colour, but as it oxidises, it changes colour to the dark navy blue that we associate with indigo.
The original water is still used since 1993 (29 years old) and has been unchanged or drained since then - Jesus simply adds food to help fermentation and other ingredients like lyme depending on the alkalinity of the broth.
