Bears bears bears!!! If you've been following along my stories, you'll know we almost didn't get to @katmainpp. Our first flight out of Homer was cancelled because of weather conditions and we were supposed to head home the next day. I made a last minute decision to change our travel plans in hope that we could try again the next day and I'm so grateful I did. It was an unforgettable and magical day. Thank you to @localpassportfamily for putting the idea to go to Katmai in my head! The next day, the weather in Homer was lovely, but quite rainy in Katmai at first. This ended up being such a blessing for us because so many other flights couldn't make it in, so the park was not busy and we didn't have to wait for time on the viewing decks. We got lots of time on decks and walking back and forth on trails - where we got to share space with mama bear and her cubs with us at one point! You might also recall I had a peemergency on the flight over to Katmai. My little ninja pee miracle in the sky is also one part of the day that will live on through time 🤣 I can't recommend @emerald_air_service for flights to Katmai out of Homer. Crystal is a magical human who spoiled my kids, the pilots let my kids sit up in the cockpit of their float planes, and we got warm homemade cookies when we arrived back! This trip can also be made out of Anchorage by flying into King Salmon and then taking a boat or flight to the park - it is not possible to drive in. It's also possible to fish and camp in the park if you make reservations far ahead of time.
