Getting busy in the studio and raising the next generation of talent. Growing up I had no examples of success in the field I felt most called to. I’d never seen a black artist making a living off of art let alone one my current age. Ever since I’ve been thinking for myself and supporting myself one of my core goals has been to make it easier for the next generation than it was for me. Kates mom works in my studio and I’ll set Kate up to draw while we work. She’s 2 years old. She brought a finished drawing up to me for the first time so I put it on the wall and we took some pictures. Who knows how far these kids can go and how magnificent their gifts can become when we provide access and active interest.
