Enduro motorcycle racing isn’t for the faint of heart. It requires a rider to master the skills needed to scale and descend the terrain of the wild outdoors and traverse all the obstacles that come along with it. In Tennessee, that means boulders the size of Toyota Corollas, narrow trails that are a gauntlet of slick, moss-covered granite, broken saplings waiting to impale a fallen rider and sheer drops that are less like riding down an hill and more like base jumping. Last week, CCC’s enduro team members Phelim, Phil, Paul and five-time world enduro champion David Knight participated in the RedBull Tennessee Hard Enduro Knock Out race. This was Phelim and Paul’s first go at the enduro race rodeo. It was brutal, but as Phelim says, “challenge excepted”. The team did a stellar job, besting more than two-thirds of the 500 rider field. “Man, it was tough. It was a tough one”, said Phelim. “We really threw ourselves into the deep end but we finished the whole race.
