Must-do in #PuertoPlata #DominicanRepublic: #canyoning at #Damajagua. They call it #27waterfalls but it was dry season so we only got to do 7 and the conditions were meek. But I love rock slides and #cliffjumping (aka #canyoneering) so it was still totally worth the 45 min drive from the @virginvoyages #cruiseport. And I would go back during rainy season for even more of an adventure 🙌 Book a private transfer with @edwin_transfers_tours. Cost works out to be about the same for two people as the big shared one offered by the #cruiseline. Save your #virginvoyages sailor loot (credits when booking with me 😁) for another destination or booze. Edwin or one of his English speaking guides will pick you up from the port (or hotel) and take you to the #naturepark. At the park, you’ll likely be paired up with others and assigned two park guides 🪖 It would be worth it to pay extra for that to be privatized, as well so you’re not waiting at each #waterfall and the slowest to catch up during the #hike. We had about 10 people and spent a long time waiting. But the one from the #cruise had like 30 people. They departed the ship before us, we arrived at the park around the same time, and we finished the falls half an hour before they did 🫡 Closed-toed shoes are required so pack water shoes you can hike in or old sneakers. It’s a bit of a #trek to the first waterfall, easier on the way out. And a change of clothes/shoes for after. They have facilities/lockers there but not the nicest, and with a private vehicle, you can leave things in the car 🩲 The lunch provided by the park is not good so skip it and have your guide take you somewhere delicious or into the colorful streets of old town Puerto Plata after (another perk of having a private transfer). Our guide Fabio is a local and was eager to share his love of his homeland.
