12/10/2021 - Steven Spielberg's West Side Story has finally been released and is now in Theaters! WOW! At this moment, our story as a cast and our collective voice as creative company of artists rejoice as this MUSICAL MASTERPIECE - originally created by Jerome Robbins, Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim - may shimmer and shine on to inspire the next generation. This story is timeless and its many messages ring so true today: Love, belonging, and the importance of everyone having a place to call home. Thank you Steven for making our dreams come true. It was one thing to get the part of "numbers" but the magic of this journey was seeing how you led the process with utmost integrity, heart, conviction, and love. @justin_peck , @pattideldancer , AND #craigsalstein YOU DID IT. You gathered the most amazingly talented movers and created something with so much kinetic soul. The movement you created is the heart beat and true spirit of the film. As a dancer I am so proud to have been part of this project because the original West Side Story truly changed my life. As a youngster I watched West Side Story for the first time with my father. As a young dancer in New York City Ballet I learned the choreography for "Cool" and brought it home to show my dad. He knew all the steps because he said he had "learned it from Jerry". On father's day of 2019, I consecrated my father's ashes in the east river immediately following our final shot for "Cool". ...I had finally found a place for him ... a place by the water that overlooked the entire set of Steven's "Cool". The Jets were with me and we sang the "Jet Song" one last time before I released him back to his beautiful city. This experience was a childhood dream realized but I could have never anticipated how important it was for me as a way to commemorate my father's memory.
