Today I got off a very de-motivating call. One where I was definitely told I was not the best, nor performing the best, not rising to the top, not out-performing other people in my space. 7 or 8 years ago this would have catapulted me into a frenzy to try to figure out how to bounce back to the very top. I used to run on this hamster wheel so hard. Being #1 was SUPER important to me. Instead, today I got off that call. I took a few deep breaths (literally ☺️) and then I asked myself, “where are we going? In what direction to I feel called? What is going to be MY most valuable contribution to the world?” I’ll tell you what is not. Trying to be the best version of someone *else* who appears to be killing it, that’s not it. And I used to do this!!! But some of our biggest wins have not come from trying to look around and then run faster than other people. The wins have come unexpectedly, after a tremendous amount of work yes, but also after doing things the unconventional way, saying no to things that other people are going all-in on, and being okay with being different. Taking feedback on how to get better, but also keeping a clear vision of where I’m headed and not just worrying about making it first to the finish line of a destination maybe I didn’t even want to end up in after all! I promise you that some of the “greatest of all timers” out there would cease to exist in history if they only tried to be someone else’s best self. Be your own best self. The world needs YOU. ❤️❤️
