When I decided to start posting again I was really keen to ensure I didn’t use excess lighting and filters.
After taking a step back from the industry, and looking through my mahoosive portfolio of beauty shoots, I realised there were times my shoots were beautiful. But, totally unrealistic.
I’m ashamed to say I once stood on the side of the road with a photographer and changed a model’s face shape in post. It shocks me now. But this is life. And if you don’t learn, admit mistakes and grow you’re doing it all wrong.
I was often asked how I didn’t get jealous of all the beautiful models I worked with, a question I know gets asked quite a lot to female stylists and MUA’s (grr). I think it’s because we see the truth. We see the girls come in before the shoot, and some are breathtakingly beautiful, but we also see the work that goes into making them look like the photos.
If you understand that concept you can appreciate model images for exactly what they are - ART. A cohesive team effort to create magical pictures. There is a place for that type of magic, but personal social media accounts shouldn’t be it.
Set yourself #filterfree it feels so good...
