After a fresh rain, Madagascar’s skies blaze over the famous Alley of the Baobabs just outside Morondava. Throughout my career, I have had the incredible privilege of working with different communities throughout the island nation, sometimes known as the eighth continent for its rich and unique biodiversity. I remember thinking of what it would take to restore our planet’s declining fauna and prevent climate change from exacerbating the droughts, floods, and famine that tend to plague the region along with many other coastal and island countries. Even then, I knew the answer would always be complicated. But the one source of life and insurance against rising global temperatures we all share is the ocean. That’s why I work today with my team @sealegacy and a rising force of fellow advocates to protect habitats like mangroves, seagrass beds, and marshlands, our ocean’s greatest carbon sinks.
