📍San Basilio de Palenque, Colombia 🇨🇴 as promised, here’s a lil photo dump of my time in Palenque 2 weeks ago + these beautiful Colombian people i captured😍 visiting Palenque was one of major highlights of my time in Colombia. Palenque was the FIRST FREE AFRICAN town in The Americas. the people speak Spanish + some speak Palenquero (a spanish-based creole language, influenced by the Kikongo language of Congo, Angola + also Portugal). they are very proud to be Black + have preserved A LOT of the customs from their African ancestors. we met so many Afro-Colombians in Cartegna who told us if we want to see African culture in Colombia, go to this village. @_iambigmeech being Liberian/Sierra Leonean he looked forward to seeing this. the day we went, we found out it was Afro-Colombian day, so it was perfect + we were able to witness them celebrate who they were firsthand. He said it reminded him A LOT of Liberia🇱🇷 On Afro-Colombian day, black Colombians dress up in African cultural garments + perform dances that signify freedom + love. look how beautiful these people are😭❣️ (will be posting more about this trip)
