Seeing Kool shaking his pineapples this morning as I roved the puddly streets of the flood ravaged town of Byron Bay saved me from sinking into the doldrums. 🍍 I have thought to myself before that @koolandtheshakers might be single handedly responsible for keeping Byron Bay as colourful and interesting a hippie town as it was 20 years ago when I first visited as a schoolies kid with my gaggle of girlfriends @sara.bc.16 @rspigelman @tamaraspigelman @madeleine_c_ @hanmonaghan I’m looking at you...! Now however I think Kool’s act gives more than that... Art comes in many forms and sometimes the least earnest and most playful kind is just as impactful as the most stirring, well thought out masterpiece. There’s profundity in simplicity. After all, isn’t the archetype of the fool also the wise man? 🍍 As we navigate our way through and out of these muddy waters I see Kool’s joy filled expression as an act of rebellion. Rebellion against normality, conformity, status quo and passivity. The qualities this pineapple shaking fellow embodies are the same ones we all need to get through this next eon we are entering.
