Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 as the complete emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States.
Juneteenth marks the announcement of freedom for enslaved people in Texas over 2 years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
It is a time of reflection on our history in this country and not "just a day off".
It took 156 years for the history of Juneteenth to be acknowledged by this country.
Hopefully it will encourage discussions about the legacy of slavery and racism in our country.
