I'm suing Cold Spring Hills, a Long Island nursing home, for allegedly taking $22.6 million in government funds meant for resident care for their own personal profit. This is the third nursing home we have sued in the past month to protect vulnerable New Yorkers. The owners and operators of Cold Spring Hills engaged in years of fraud and self-dealing. They neglected and hurt residents, understaffed the facility, and created poor working conditions for its employees: - Residents weren't fed or given medication. - They were forced to sit in their own feces for hours and weren't bathed for months. - They didn't receive proper wound care. - Wheelchairs, beds, shower chairs, and ACs were broken and unusable. Before the pandemic, the facility was greatly understaffed. Despite warnings from DOH to prepare for #COVID19, the owners cut staffing even more. When COVID hit, the facility snapped: - COVID deaths were underreported by 52%. - Staff had to work without sufficient PPE. Cold Spring Hills repeatedly put profits over patient care. My office is seeking to: - Remove the owners. - Recover the millions of dollars they took. - Install monitors to oversee facility operations, resident care, and finances. - Stop new residents from being admitted. From Buffalo to Long Island, we won't allow vulnerable New Yorkers to endure heartbreaking, inhumane conditions. People deserve better.
