From Mx Viv Posted @withregram • @mxviv “Went to sit with Barbara Maier Gustern’s grandson AJ today. He’s so kind to let us come visit and share our stories and feel our feelings. It was strange but comforting to stand next to that piano where I stood for so many hours of lessons and not have Barbara there making double entendres and innuendos while I “built my theater.” At one point her cousin came out of the bedroom with the iconic gown she wore for her unforgettable 85th birthday party. That night it seemed like half the city took turns singing. She had so many students. We all loved her and I’m sure each of us felt like we were her favorite. I held up the dress to show how small it was next to me while my friend @amandajoyr took a picture. When we left we went to visit the shrine near her building on W. 28th between 8th and 9th. I didn’t cry today. I felt good. I felt connected, part of the community. It’s amazing to see all the people rallying to honor her memory and track down her killer.
