Over the last few years, I’ve felt more pressure to make my work fit a certain narrative. I felt like if I wanted to make it further in the art world, that I had to check boxes of wokeness and Black pain. I put that pressure on myself b/c I could see what narratives sell. Now I’m just doing what the fuck I want. I’m making work that I like. I’m not trying to fit into someone else’s agenda. If you get it, great. If you don’t, that’s okay too. I’m doing me.
