you’re gonna be a star, girl 💫 A lot of Nocturnal’s visual elements were inspired after a tarot reading i had a few years ago, where the my “future” card was the Star card. This happened again on my birthday, a tarot reader pulled the same card as my “future” again! So, I was very inspired by the silhouette of that six pointed star, it’s more like a north star you’d see on a christmas tree. Writing Nocturnal, I was super into writing songs that were acronyms (ahem, R.E.M. being about PTSD) — and so i made S.T.A.R. with @itsevahoney and @tealdouville and i wanted to spin it into a song about the double edged sword of pursuing music. About my first success being a video of me crying in my car, completely defeated by the music industry. And how so often, I’ve felt like I had to spill my guts to get anyone to care about me. And I don’t want to live in a state of self destructiveness to achieve my dreams, to be so tragic and rare. I absolutely love this song and I couldn’t quite make it work on the Nocturnal tracklist, because this song felt more like a sunrise than anything. I’m so happy that it’s out now. ✴︎
