Mothers carry the load of unpaid maternity leave (if you can even call it that), lack of accessible childcare, obligations to return to employment while still bleeding and healing from childbirth, expectations to sacrifice a career (or attempt to prioritize one while raising kids/maintaining a household), poor perinatal mental healthcare, constant judgment on parenting/lifestyle choices, regulations on reproductive healthcare, pressure to independently solve a national baby formula crisis, the list goes on. Mothers are overworked, under-supported, and ignored...and EVERYONE knows it. Everyone. That’s why they call us “superheroes,” because they know we’re doing the impossible. But we don’t want to be called superheroes. We don’t want to have to do the impossible. We want to rest and be taken care of. We want to feel supported and be heard. We want to enter into pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood with a sense of comfort and security.
