Patrick was a breeze. The easiest photographer for any Fashion or Sittings Editor. His ease to charm was inspiring and came to life in the effortless beauty of his images. Nothing ever felt contrived, even if there were 10 scrims and 3 studio lights on the open beach. I was lucky enough to work with him countless times when I was learning from my mentor @marieameliesauve over 5 years and, even luckier, a few times on my own after my time as her assistant. MAS and Patrick had a hilarious relationship. The type that I hoped to find with a photographer when I went out on my own. Even with our collective English and MAS’ French, Patrick was still audibly confusing at times, something I think he knew and played to his cheeky advantage. His true fame came from his speed, something well known and adored by Art Directors. We were once done with an ad campaign before breakfast. So we all beached it and Patrick showed us around “his town” as he called it, the unofficial mayor of St. Barths. There was a moment in particular regarding his tempo that will always stay with me. It’s the photograph shown here. I was barely out of frame after fixing Fei-Fei’s pants when I heard his camera flash pop. He and MAS looked at the screen and nodded in their very French way of approval with an accented “okay.” (My favorite French accented word after “cool”) MAS asked me to change Fei-Fei into the next outfit. I looked confused I’m sure but did as I was told. I figured they didn’t love it and wanted to move on. I mean, the man took ONE frame! In the symbol of Patricks simplicity, that image ran in the story. A shock to me with my near secret intel that there was only a single option. I suppose that was Patricks’ take on life that he achieved and lived with so gracefully. You’ve got one shot, make it count. 🤍❤️
