A suspect in the Santa Monica College shooting, 29-year-old Davon Durell Dean, died by suicide after an hours-long SWAT standoff in El Segundo. Dean, an employee at the college, was wanted for the shooting of a female custodial manager on October 14, 2024, in a suspected workplace violence incident. Police boxed in Dean’s vehicle, but he shot himself despite negotiators’ attempts. The college canceled all classes, and extra patrols were deployed as students expressed concerns about the delayed campus alert system. The investigation remains ongoing. Follow @socals for more!
