The word DISABLED and DISABILITY are NOT BAD to use! The socialization of the terms are bad. We do not need to make our identity palatable for society because people feel uncomfortable naming the truth of our existence. It’s more harmful to call us anything other than disabled or person with disabilities because it’s rooted in ableism. When you use terms like ‘differently abled’ you are trying to force our existence to feel as non-disabled as possible so everyone can feel cozy inside. When instead they need to embrace that our bodies or minds or both have a disability and that’s OK! This Sunday message is for disabled and non-disabled people alike. SPREAD THE WORD. 🗣❤️
