Today, I’m choosing to publicly disclose and share my HIV status in a personal essay for Good Morning America and ABC News. 8 years ago this year, I was diagnosed with this incurable and monstrous disease. It’s as awful as you think it would be. And while I’ve been given another chance at life, living has actually been the hardest part. What our society has probably whispered to you about people like me, is unfair and misinformed. It took a year of isolation and self-reflection, but truly, I believe that we are the ones we have been looking for — we have the answers that others are desperately needing, if only we embrace all of who and what we are.
