Remarkably, when I came to London in the early 80’s Battersea Power Station had only just been decommissioned and was completely intact. Over 35 years I have watched it become more and more derelict and neglected, while several attempts to redevelop the site failed due to the enormous expense of saving this amazing piece of 30’s architecture designed by Theo Halliday and Gilbert Scott. Thanks to the early efforts of the Victorian Society’s (formerly The 30’s Society) the building was listed and saved from demolition. In 2012 an agreement with consortium of Malaysian investors for a commercial and residential scheme allowed for a huge restoration project including rebuilding the four great chimneys. In 2014 #batterseapowerstation was a ruin, today thankfully it stands beautifully restored and open to the public. @batterseapwrstn
