This whole childhood thing sure goes by fast! Been thinking about this as one of my littles celebrates a birthday this week. ⁠ ⁠ THE BLUR made me cry the first time I heard @bottomshelfbks read it aloud on a panel we were both on. My eyes wouldn't stop leaking until long after he finished reading and I had to keep wiping my eyes, even when it was my turn to talk. He was not sorry about this one bit. 😤⁠ ⁠ It is about a child with superhero-like abilities - ultrasonic voice, elastic limbs, magnetic powers - and that's all before she takes her first steps and becomes The Blur! Her parents can barely keep up with her through the house, out in the street...and soon, through the days and years as she grows up. ⁠ ⁠ This book captures so many of the sweet, hilarious and challenging moments of parenthood and does it with brilliant word play and illustrations. Minh Lê and Dan Santat have some kind of magical book making chemistry in which Minh can write like 10 words that tell a whole story and will make you cry and then Dan takes the minimal text and brings it to vivid, brilliant life. ⁠ ⁠ I think every parent will see themselves and their beloved ones in this story. It will make you laugh and cry and hang on to those little rascals a little tighter, treasure the moments a little more. It's SUCH an amazing book.
