Real things I’ve said in therapy sessions this week:
1️⃣”That really sucks.”
It makes sense that you’re feeling overwhelmed—this situation is genuinely hard and frustrating.
2️⃣”You are allowed to feel that way.”
Your emotions are valid, and giving yourself permission to feel them is a powerful step toward healing.
3️⃣ “I know this is very challenging, and you are doing a great job given the circumstances.”
It’s important to recognize your effort and resilience, even if things are tough right now.
4️⃣”You may be moving, but the basics of your routine will stay the same.”
Familiar structure can provide stability and comfort, even in the midst of big changes.
5️⃣”Let’s focus on what’s in your control.”
Shifting your attention to the things you can do helps you feel more grounded, take back control, and also helps reduce to anxiety and build confidence.
6️⃣”Who said you ‘should’ do that?”
Sometimes we internalize unrealistic expectations—let’s challenge where that belief came from and if it still serves you.
In this space, we acknowledge how you are really feeling, acknowledge that life can be tough at times, and focus on what we can.
Which one(s) resonates with you? 1-6?
