THE MASTER AT WORK!!!! Finally got to see @talvinsinghmusic perform live today at @woodbridgeambientmusicfestival and it was a truly spiritual experience, not least because of the beautiful church we were in. Watching and hearing Talvin play makes you realise that he is operating on a deeper musical level than most, something that all musicians / music creators are on a quest to find. The tabla drums come from the North Indian Classical tradition which is an ancient music, going back thousands of years, and through Talvin's playing inside a sleepy East Anglian church today, that heritage, knowledge and power was distilled before all of us listeners. It was so special. Between today's concert and my visit to Maharajah Duleep Singh's grave earlier this week, I never would have thought I'd end up having two very rootsy experiences in Suffolk. But that's the beauty of England: everything is connected and intertwined, and there are so many layers of stories and people and history that converge on this tiny island and you just never know what you might uncover, whichever part of the country you're in, London and beyond... And that's one thing I sincerely do love about this place.
