Yet ANOTHER programme where hair-loss, shaving of hair & being a bald women is seen as crazy, scary looking, the villain & un-normal. I see programmes/movies where they make a character bald because they believe this looks “scarier” or “more shocking” to viewers (especially women characters). It doesn’t usually bother me as I have developed quite a thick skin to these sort of things after many years but the new American Horror Story hit a nerve with me. You see one of the main characters take a pill which allows you to excel at your strengths (if you have any) but a side effect is that you need to drink blood to stay alive. If you don’t have any strengths, you become a blood thirsty monster. Her husband & daughter have taken the pill & are both excelling, the dad at writing & the daughter at violin so although they still need blood to survive, they get to keep their hair & are seen as the “goodies”. The wife on the other hand took the pill & turned into a pale (as they call them) because she did not have a strength - she didn’t get to keep her hair and she is seen as a “baddie”. In one scenes you see her hair falling out in clumps in the sink as she becomes hysterical, she then takes a shaver to the remaining strands. The lady is then fully bald & proceeds to look for someone to kill & eat. It’s extremely sad that so many people (both men & women) go through hair-loss in their life for whatever reason & it’s still portrayed in a negative way. This programme shows such a detailed clip of what REAL, NORMAL, BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE go through on a daily basis! If I was my younger self this scene would have really effected me. So I’m putting my opinion out there for all the young women experiencing Alopecia. WHERE ARE THE FILMS/SERIES WHERE WE SHOW BALD WOMEN IN A POSITIVE, EMPOWERING LIGHT?!!! @netflix @disney @primevideo #alopeciaawareness #alopecia #alopeciauniversalis #alopeciaareata #alopeciasupport #hairlosssupport
