::: Holy Moses ::: you guys are not going to believe this I can't believe I get to play with 🥁🥁🥁 this Fri Sat Sun in San Francisco!! - DJ Logic and friends, featuring the very great Billy Martin on drums ::::::: but wait, there's more ::::::::: the recording below is from the night I met them-M-W JFJO (my band) were the opener. 27 years ago.....October 21, 1995. I've always thought of it as (cheesy as it sounds) the first night of the rest of my life. MMW caused a full reformatting of my psyche and my relationship to improvising, my relationship to composing, my relationship to rhythm, my relationship to history, my relationship to....well....everything. I've seen them play a ton of times since then, and occasionally hung out with them a little. This year at New Orleans Jazzfest I even got to play a gig with John Medeski! But this....this.....THIS....this weekend SO, we are playing at a new club in SF....the Black Cat I've been there a couple times, once to see Roosevelt Collier, once to see Mononeon. It's an amazing place. I kind of can't believe I get to play there. THREE NIGHTS. And what's the date on that first night of the three? This friday...October 21, 2022. 27 years to the day since I first heard/met Billy Martin and Medeski Martin and Wood. TO THE DAY. This can't be a coincidence. Right?
