Pamela Weissenberg se enorgullece en presentar la primera exposición individual de la artista emergente Sofia Elias @sofiahellyes : “Corinthianopodus: La quinceañera en el balneario corintio, S XXI”. Sofia Elias (Guadalajara, 1995) es escultora, dibujante, diseñadora y arquitecta. Ha fijado el foco de su producción en un universo lúdico informado por la historia del arte y la arquitectura. Influenciada por los estudios arqueológicos de la antigua Roma de Giovanni Battista Piranesi, la exhibición tiene como eje cinco dibujos, que evocan los pasteles típicos de las celebraciones de “quinceañeras”, la gran fiesta añorada por las adolescentes mexicanas al cumplir los quince años. Emulando betún, las Pofi Chairs son esculturas interactivas hechas a mano que reflejan las perfectas imperfecciones, un choque entre lo fresco y lo pegajoso. Como parte central de su práctica, Elias juega con las propiedades de los materiales y sus posibilidades; es desde éste juego donde nacen cuestionamientos sobre las funciones y concepciones de la “silla”. . . . Pamela Weissenberg is proud to present emerging artist @sofiahellyes first solo show, “Corinthianopodus: The Quinceañera at the Corinthian Spa, S XXI”.Sofia Elias (Guadalajara, 1995) has developed a multi-disciplinary practice: she is a sculptor, draftsman, designer and architect. She has set the focus of her production on a playful universe informed by the history of art and architecture. Influenced by the archaeological studies of Ancient Rome by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, the exhibition focuses on five detailed ink drawings, referencing the typical cakes used in the celebrations of “las quinceañeras", the coming out party longed for by Mexican adolescents when they turn fifteen. Emulating frosting, the Pofi Chairs are interactive sculptures made by hand, they reflect the perfect imperfections, a clash between the fresh and the sticky. As a central theme of her practice, Elias plays with the properties of materials and its possibilities. It is from this game that the fundamental question about the function and understanding of a "chair" are born.
