Today marks 4 years since the decree of the creation of the revillagigedo national park was published. It is a worldwide example of how the new MPAs should be. Before the MPAs were decreed based on quantity and for protecting relevant biodiversity, today quality is added to these elements through the new strategy in conservation of the seas, that they are Highly and Fully Protected MPAs, that means, with a no take zone for Fishing industry. It is recommended that the new MPAs be large polygons, so it is easier for surveillance and monitoring. Before, it was only a biosphere reserve with 384,000 protected acres.
