I always thought I looked weird and different/ugly when I was younger, I wanted to be blond and blue eyed; just like the girls from my school. Being seen, heard, desired and not being picked on. And now I’m growing into this person that is accepting and loving her cultural heritage - embracing her ‘otherness’, cherishing and protecting it. Evolving into my most authentic form of self. I’m not weird, I’m me, a product of colliding worlds and contrasting selves. Sorry if this might come across as a performative act of vulnerability or a cry for attention, it’s not - I wanted to share this bit as a confession in honesty and openness and I truly hope that more people will be able to start feeling and thinking about themselves in the same way. We all deserve this, it’s a basic human right and the fuel for life. Goddamnit. Bless you and your heart.
