So sad to learn of Dame Vivienne Westwoods passing 🕊️ Extraordinary in all that she was and did. The Queen of British fashion. My first times attending Vivienne’s shows where around a time I was really trying as a young women to find an identity of my own. Find a space where I didn’t feel so stifled by beauty but a place where creativity and individuality came first. I never had a role model growing up, there wasn’t a women I felt I could identify with that inspired me to embrace my differences. It was the fashion I found in my early twenties that filled that void for me and as I soaked it up, she was a huge part of that. These are some of my most memorable Westwood moments. My favourite in particular, I remember going into Westwoods show room to choose something for an upcoming event. There was a designated rail that had been set aside for me but to every PRs dread I started going through the rails that were off limits. Pulling back the dresses I spotted the Carrie Bradshaw wedding dress. Bagged up and preserved perfectly I shyly asked if I might be able to wear it. To my disbelief they said yes! I felt like the luckiest girl in the world and I still can’t believe I got to wear it. Thank you Vivienne, your spirit and originality inspired and empowered me at a crucial time as a young women ♥️
