Going anywhere with kids is more work than going there on my own, but it is worth all the extra time and effort and energy! These clips are from the same hike. First, the little one doesn't want to walk or wear her raincoat (note: it is raining). I ended up carrying her for at least half an hour on a pretty short hike, which is unusual for her. The second clip is the second half of the same hike. They're having a "who can walk the funniest" contest. Then they found hiking sticks and sword-fought the rest of the way back. An adventure day is a regular day but everything is a bit MORE. Hungry, tired, tantrums can be more (not always!). If not more, they're just the same as usual, which is to say...they happen! But laughter, wonder, marvel, joy, excitement, peace are more too. When it gets hard, sometimes I hit a point where I start to second guess myself - should we be on a hike this long? Should we be hiking in the rain? Should I be on this trip at all? But without fail, we bounce back and at the end of every hike and/or every day I'm always so glad we did it. The hard moments can feel long, but in the big picture of a whole day, they are just a fraction of time well spent. Plus, working through big feelings and conflict together helps us grow closer.
