The most to the point how to match your foundation tutorial you will ever see. Save this post to reference later and share with a friend who’s foundation is a lil jaundiced 😩😭😭😭. ( I kid but I’m not🥹🥲).
This was the hardest tutorial to write. I spent 3 weeks in @sephora and @ultabeauty approaching finding a foundation as consumer and whew it’s hard out there.
Approaching from the place of “finding your undertone was near impossible since every brand uses creative ways as a means to stand out. Then suddenly shades disappear from an undertone and it was just a mess.
Here’s how I recommend to get started with your perfect foundation match:
📝Pick up 5-6 foundations from the same line that look like your shade (or samples of each). Sit in front of a window with clean MOISTURIZED skin (this is key)
📝Assess your skin. You’re looking for the most common shade in your face, neck, chest and arms combined. That’s the shade of foundation you need. Unless you only wear long sleeve turtlenecks??
📝99% of the time that shade is represented in the back of the jaw close to the neck. This is where you will swatch your shades.
📝Swatch each shade on its own and look for it “disappearing into your skin BEFORE blending.
The shades I chose are all @armanibeauty Luminous silk:
Swatch 1: Shade 6 - medium, olive
Swatch 2: 6.25 - medium to tan, golden
Swatch 3: 6.5 - medium to tan, neutral
Swatch 4: 7 - medium to tan, peach
📝Apply your close match on one half of your face and look at it in the same light in comparison to your neck, chest and arms. My closest match is swatch 3: 6.5 - medium to tan, neutral
📝If you were unsure between two shades apply that one on the other half and do the same assessment.
📝Finally if you have your perfect match, make note of the shade name and any markers towards undertone (depending on the brand it may say cool, neutral or a description like peach undertones.
If you don’t have a perfect match, nix that brand and try another. It may take a few tries but it’s worth the time and effort.
Stay tuned for part 2:
