Award-winning pastry chef Dominique Ansel just opened an Asian-inspired bakery—and it’s a full-on tribute to the comforting breads and pastries of Asia. The menu highlights everything from fluffy shokupan and milk bread to steamed buns, egg tarts, and more. The name of the shop is a sweet nickname given to the chef by his two young children, Célian (5) and Elise “Mei Mei” (2). It also nods to their Taiwanese and French heritage. 🥹 Here’s what I tried: 💜 Taro & Mochi Donut – MY FAV. Crispy lacey outside, chewy mochi center, and guava strawberry jam. Tart, not too sweet—perfect combo. 🌭 Kurobuta Hot Dog Spiral – wrapped in sticky rice?! Layers of texture. 🥭 Mango Coconut Jam Jar – gave major Hong Kong dessert soup vibes with mango + tapioca balls. 🥚 Egg Tart – not too sweet, just silky, custardy heaven. 🌿 Scallion Basil Blossom – pesto and Thai basil folded into a soft, sesame-studded bun. Layers on layers.📍Papa d’Amour . . #bakery #nyc #nycfood #newyorkcity #pastries
