Repost-#ThursdayTalk Tough Love
It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that will make them successful human beings.
The one thing I love about coaching is sharing my knowledge with kids. I am a very passionate individual towards the things I truely care about. No matter the level of talent there will come a point where you receive tough love from me.
What is tough love? It is my refusal to allow you to except mediocrity. At a young age there is a good chance I have more belief in what a kid can do then they do in themselves. It is my job to make them believe. It would be an injustice to let a kid fail over and over and never teach them how to get better.
As coaches, role models, and parents it is our job to remind our youth mistakes and struggles will happen. We will have a lot of fun a long the way but I'm not just teaching you how to play a game; instead I am using a game to teach our young athletes character, healthy work ethic and most importantly how to be a good human being.
Good habits start young and bad habits don't break easy the more you allow them to happen. It's called tough love for a reason.
As an athlete I am speaking from experience. If it wasn't for tough love through sports we may not be having this conversation at all. How sad it would be if I didnt have the chance to share what was taught to me.
Thanks Dad
