I LOVE MULTIVERSE NARRATIVE. Two reasons: the repetition and variation creates a kind of rhyme and rhythm (ljke in this story with the repetition of the first line: “a scorpion, not knowing how to swim...”) It feels orderly and disorganized at the SAME TIME in a way that’s pleasing to the senses! Second and maybe more importantly: they are stories in which MORE THAN ONE THING IS POSSIBLE. They acknowledge our capacity for choice and growth, even when, like in this story, the topic is the systems that tend to bind us to a predetermined path. In this story, most of the outcomes depict the triumph of nature over choice. But what’s alive an in flux is the *interpretation.* The writer refusing to let the parable MEAN only one thing or to say only one thing about good and evil, trust, kindness and responsibility. You feel the presence of a mind alive, and that’s one of the great things narrative can give us!! Multiverse forever!! ...
