DUANE PETERS - Big “O” skatepark reservoir circa 1979 - Ripping a back side “Bert” during his early punk days. The “Master of Disaster” @realduanepeters was and still is unbelievably an incredible SkateBoarder. Creativity and radicalism like few others, an extreme individual... His sketchy style of riding in pools and on vertical, always on the verge of disaster because he’s always pushing to the limit is what saw him excel in competition. I knew him 1st before punk rock, the tan, long haired sun bleached blonde surfer, menace to society, before he became known as one of the earliest professional skaters to cut his locks off when he got into punk rock, and another new way to look at the world. DP was destined to be a Punk Rocker for LIFE. As well as a SkateBoarder for life. Our friend DP has had his lows and his highs, much like my old friend Jay Adams... there’s much more than meets the eye. Troubled lives start somewhere... Duane and Jay can both be wonderfully insightful and smart, as well as having the capacity to be awful and horrible, most often when they were using drugs of one kind or another... Their hearts are huge but sometimes things get in the way. I like both of these guys a lot, they are leaders of a progression of an activity and have been recognized internationally for that, as well as some of their more human mistakes. They are inspirations for the good and beacons of integrity too, this is what I celebrate. I recently interviewed DP for the film I have been working on, it was so great to see him looking healthier than I’ve seen him in years, we had a great talk, and it was emotional at times. I look forward to sharing this project, hopefully in the next year or so...
